10 Suffolk Road (formerly 5 Northwick Terrace)In 1856 this was the residence of George Young, who died in 1864, and the house contents were sold off in a public auction. Mr D'Arcy Ferris, a teacher of singing, lived here in 1882. In the 19th century Cheltenham hosted many private tutors who taught the children of wealthy patrons.
By 1900 a trade was being conducted from these premises by Mr Frederick A. Hamlin, who described himself as a 'Ladies & Gentlemen's Tailor'. He seems to have relocated next door, to 12 Suffolk Road, in about 1906 and this building became once more residential. Between 1917 and 1934 Mr William C. Woof, the sports outfitter from 8 Suffolk Road expanded his business into this property. By the 1960s the building had reverted to residential use but it has for many years been the home to the B-Ten Tandoori restaurant. Researcher: Stuart Manton (Sept 2018)
