Bath Road Butchers
Michael Ramstedt has supplied us with his memories of working for Reg Pitt.
"I did my butcher's apprenticeship at Reg Pitt's, starting in August 1982 and continuing there, on and off, for about 15 years. I worked with Reg, his wife Linda, Alan Gibbs and Dave Patching. We used to make our own sausages, burgers, chiterlings, bath chaps, brawn and faggots cooked in Linda's oven at their house. When the original tiles were uncovered Reg had replacement ones made at the Black Country Museum, or Tonbridge. In the cellar is the first commercial refrigerator in Cheltenham, only used for turkeys at Christmas.
A local artist did a picture of Reg and Mr Patching but I'm not sure where the two copies ended up.
On the left of the shop used to be Bloodworth's and on the right Courts fruit and veg."
